Origin
Himalayan pink salt is an exceptional rock salt which is extracted from the salt ranges of Punjab. It has a beautiful pink hue because of the impurities which gives it the name pink salt. It is mainly used for being an additive in the food as table salt which gives great flavor to the food. However, not only this it is also used for excessive decorative purposes and numerous treatments i.e. spa treatment.

Moreover, it is shaped in the form of tiles/bricks and majorly used for construction and health purposes. The color of the tiles may vary from the lighter shades of pink to the darker ones. Pink salt tiles can be molded into numerous shapes such as polygonal shapes 3 side’s equal triangle, 4 side’s Equal rectangle, 4 side’s Equal Square, 5 side’s equal pentagon, 6 side’s equal hexagon. The size of the tiles varies from 2*2*2 to 8*8*2 inches. However, the most common size is for interior construction is 2” thick x 4” wide x 8” lengths.

Historical Importance
Pink salt tiles are also used for the absolute healing of injured/diseased animals. Just like human beings, animals also suffer from the deficiency of Sodium chloride, which leads to a few major diseases. So scientists have proved through various experiments that placing pink salt tiles in pastures can be proved as healthy for the animals. There is a proper historical reason behind why pink salt tiles are used in pastures and for building animal shelters. Back in 326 BC, amid the Battle of Hydaspes, some of the injured soldiers took refuge in the Himalayan Salt Ranges along with their injured horses. They were not aware of the fact that they were living in the salt ranges however, after a few days; the injured horses were seen licking the walls of the caves which further lead to the beliefs that the horses were healed quickly. There were also beliefs that the walls have magical powers which help in healing the injured animals. So, the tradition started from that day and practices till date.
